Dive into our engaging virtual professional development (VPD) micro-credentials that are tailored to deliver targeted strategies to empower administrators, school leaders, and teachers to enhance and turnaround schools. Accessible anytime, anywhere, our modules discuss best practices and provide opportunities to enhance your leadership abilities and drive positive change within your school community.  These micro-credentials are developed by the Texas A&M Educational Leadership Research Center (ELRC), with funding provided through a grant from Education Innovation and Research (EIR), the U.S. Department of Education.

Module 1: Improving Leadership Communication

 

  • Appreciate the importance of the principal as a communicator.
  • Understand the importance of effective communication.
  • Observe the effective communication traits in school leaders.

Module 2: Elements of Effective Communication

 

  • Discover the elements of effective communication.
  • Understand how to develop a communication plan.
  • Learn about how adopting a growth mindset builds stronger communication skills.
  • Examine digital communication as an additional tool of communication for school administrators.

Module 3: Barriers to Communication

 

  • Examine the barriers that exist in the communication process.
  • Examine individual differences in the communication process.
  • Explore successful ways to communicate to achieve desired outcomes.

Module 4: Critical Dialogues Between Principals and Teachers 

 

  • Explore the definition and elements of critical dialogue.
  • Understand how successful principals utilize critical dialogue to provide performance evaluations and feedback to teachers.
  • Identify barriers to critical dialogue.

Module 5: Principals Building Relationships with Teachers Through Effective Communication

  • Examine the importance of positive relationships between campus leaders and their teachers.
  • Understand the ways principals can develop and maintain positive relationships with teachers.
  • Explore effective dialogues to improve the relationships between principals and teachers.

This is a five module micro-credential that awards a certificate worth five continuing professional development units/hours (CPUs) upon completion.
