Dive into our engaging virtual professional development (VPD) micro-credentials that are tailored to deliver targeted strategies to empower administrators, school leaders, and teachers to enhance and turnaround schools. Accessible anytime, anywhere, our modules discuss best practices and provide opportunities to enhance your leadership abilities and drive positive change within your school community. These micro-credentials are developed by the Texas A&M Educational Leadership Research Center (ELRC), with funding provided through a grant from Education Innovation and Research (EIR), the U.S. Department of Education.
Module 1: Surviving Your First Year as a Principal
- Identify and prioritize key responsibilities of first-year principals.
- Develop an action plan for first-year success.
- Understand how to foster a positive school culture.
- Cultivate strong relationships with staff, students, and the community.
- Find mentors and resources to support your professional growth.
Module 2: Building Trust as a New Principal or Administrator in a School
- Develop effective strategies to build and sustain trust with teachers and staff.
- Master the art of communication and listening to empower and engage faculty.
- Utilize various methods to gather and analyze data on the school’s culture, identifying both explicit and implicit norms and values that drive the behavior of school staff.
- Learn and implement relationship-building techniques that help mentor and coach staff, ensuring strong professional relationships that contribute to the school's success.
Module 3: How does a Leader Delegate?
- Explain the impact of delegation on the role of the principal.
- Describe the benefits of delegation.
- Identify barriers to delegation and strategies to overcome them.
This three-module micro-credential awards a certificate worth three continuing professional development units/hours (CPUs) upon completion.
